Our Story

Karl Schaefer has been building things since he was a child.  His favorite toys were his erector set and lincoln logs.  He spent countless hours in his fathers shop creating things, woodworking, metal fabrication, building anything that he was able to with the materials and tools on-hand.  After high school he went to Chico State and earned 2 degrees, Construction Management and Business Administration.  He then went into the workforce for a large Commercial General Contractor helping to build many large projects around Northern California and Nevada, learning the trades, and getting invaluable experience.  As is typical in the construction industry people change companies as projects come and go.  Not wanting to suffer the ups and downs of a typical construction career, Karl chose to become a licensed General Engineering (A) and Building (B) Contractor (Patriot Construction) in California in 2007, and intentionally did only residential projects for a small group of select clients.  Karl's commercial construction career continued to progress and flourish, having served as a Project Manager of many large residential developments in northern CA and NV, shopping centers, office buildings, airport work at SFO and LAX, State of CA projects, and more.  While those experiences were valuable, Karl has always been drawn back to his childhood roots of physically building things himself.  To Karl construction is an art, and although it is physically demanding, seeing things come together makes it all worth the effort.

Writing a new chapter, Karl and Tawny have teamed up and started Schaefer Construction, a husband and wife team.  Tawny is truly a design genius.  She sees things Karl isn't able to see, and helps cast a design vision for a project in a way that is special.  Karl, on the other hand does the dirty work.  Now for the twist, Tawny is a licensed General Contractor.  Yep, she knows what she's doing, not only with design, but in getting it built too.

So, when you work with Schaefer Construction, you get not only one, but two licensed General Contractors, working together to bring your vision of whatever your project may be, into reality, while always staying true to our three core principles: Quality, Value, and Integrity.
